Clemson has offered its first transfer portal prospect of the season.
On Wednesday offensive tackle Alan Herron of Shorter University, a private Baptist Division II school in Rome, Georgia.
247Sports ranks Herron as the No. 4 portal offensive tackle and No. 25 overall portal prospect thus far.
The transfer portal for D1 players opens on Monday, Dec. 4, but non-Division I players could previously enter. Herron entered the portal last week.Â
He has over 20 Division I scholarships offers, including Louisville, Boston College, Maryland, Kansas, Virginia Tech, Texas Tech, and USF among others.
Texas Tech will host Herron on an official visit this weekend. He plans to take an official visit to Louisville the weekend of Dec. 15. Virginia Tech is also anticipating an official visit. It’s possible he’s already lined up five officials, but Clemson247 hasn’t confirmed that yet.Â
Herron originally hails from Jamaica. He played high school ball at Benjamin Banneker in College Park, Ga.
This past season, Herron was a sophomore.Â
We’ll see if Clemson can get Herron on campus.
What Clemson247 wrote yesterday in light of Clemson’s possible portal pursuit:Â
“Offensive line is potentially non-negotiable, especially if Mitchell Mayes, Bryn Tucker and John Williams decide to be done with football or transfer. Even Trent Howard might hang it up after this season. But even if Howard returns; the other three aforementioned leave, and nobody hits the portal, Clemson would have 11 returning offensive linemen (including redshirt freshmen Ian Reed and Zack Owens) in 2024. Currently, Clemson has just one offensive line commitment for 2024. I think 15 should be the minimum number of offensive linemen most college rosters carry. Clemson carried 15 this season.”
