Woman Convicted Of Shooting Man Over $30 For Beer: DA

by Fulton Watch News Feed

DECATUR — A 34-year-old woman accused of shooting and injuring a man who refused to give her $30 for beer was found guilty of multiple charges by a jury Thursday, DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston said in a news release Friday.

A jury found Bianca Echols guilty of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, Boston said.

The shooting happened on Feb. 25, 2021 at a Flat Shoals Road apartment complex. Boston said the man was at a friend’s house, where Echols arrived with beer and demanded the man give her $30 for the beer she provided. The man refused, Boston said.

Echols was later accused of driving up to the man to speak with him while he was waiting for a ride-share car, and then, shooting him several times as he tried to walk away from the scene. Boston said Echols then fled the scene.

DeKalb County Police found the man laying on his back with multiple gunshot wounds, and four .40-caliber shell casings were found near him, Boston said. He was taken to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment.

The man identified Echols as the suspected shooter to investigators, Boston said.

Echols was accused of trying to sell a .40-caliber Glock handgun on social media following the shooting. Boston said Echols was seen in a photo with the gun, and shell casings from the scene were determined to have been fired from a .40-caliber Glock handgun.

“Echols was taken into custody without incident. DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Asha Jackson, who presided over the trial, sentenced Defendant Echols to 15 years, to serve 10 in confinement with the balance on probation,” read the release from Boston.
