What to see, do and hear: MARTA concert, seasonal stagings and art, more

The Adinkra Project will perform for one night only this weekend at the Windmill Arts Center. Artistic Director N.K. Condua, a Morehouse graduate, named the company after a Ghanaian alphabet; he’s the American born son of Ghanaian parents. For this concert, titled Artistic Excellence, he chose some of his favorite works by other choreographers and will also present his new work Surrenders. Read more about the concert and the company in ArtsATL dance writer Robin Wharton’s preview. Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets $40.

Nutcracker ballets are being performed all across Atlanta this month, but none can compare with Yuri Possokhov’s high-tech production created for Atlanta Ballet in 2018. ArtsATL’s dance critic Cynthia Bond Perry has described it as “remarkable” and The Washington Post hailed it as “one of the most entertaining out there.” Mikaela Santos makes her debut in the central role of Marie this year. Friday at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Weekends through December 26. Tickets start at $53.

This Thursday, Anne Archer Dennington, the administrative and artistic leader of Flux Projects, will be in a livestream conversation with Elizabeth Labbe-Webb, executive director of Core Dance in this week’s 1830EST. Their discussion promises to be full of wise insights and will be available after the livestream at coredance.org. Under Dennington’s guidance, Flux Projects has fostered community connections through pioneering public art initiatives such as Stone Speaks and Ghost Pools and has helped redefine Atlanta’s public spaces. 6:30 p.m. Free.
