ATLANTA — Days after the death of an Atlanta police officer, a second officer has died of an unknown cause, Atlanta Police said Tuesday.
Police said on Facebook that Officer Lucas Sizemore died on Jan. 9. A cause of death was not released.
Sizemore, who worked the evening watch for Zone 4, graduated from the police academy in May 2023.

“His loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of working alongside him. During this difficult time, let us come together to remember Officer Sizemore’s commitment and sacrifice. Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Lucas Sizemore’s loved ones during this painful time. May he rest in peace, and may his legacy inspire us all to foster a culture of compassion, understanding and support within the Atlanta Police Department family,” police said in the post.
The news of Sizemore’s death comes 11 days after Officer Kenya Galloway, 44, died after suffering a medical emergency in his personal vehicle on the way to work. Galloway was found unresponsive at the Atlanta Police Annex.

Galloway was the third Georgia law-enforcement officer to die in a week. Coweta County Deputy Sheriff Eric Minix died on Jan. 4 when he was hit by a police car during a chase while Sgt. Marc McIntyre, with the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, died on Dec. 29, 2023 after being shot during a welfare check.
