Man indicted for killing uncle, wounding deputy | Douglasville Sentinel

On Jan. 8, Superior Court Chief Judge William H. ‘Beau’ McClain ordered a mental evaluation of Roman to see his he was competent to stand trial.

Roman was indicted by a Douglas County grand jury on Jan. 17 alone with 40 other criminal cases.

Roman’s family reported to the court that Roman has lived at home and is ‘not capable intellectually to live’ on his own.

Johnson died at the scene, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

A woman holding a baby told deputies that Roman was in another room, the GBI reported.

Deputies then saw Roman and continued to give commands of “show me your hands.” Roman shot a deputy and retreated briefly before emerging and shooting at the deputy again while he was on the ground. Deputies returned fire, hitting Roman, the GBI stated.

The deputy was shot multiple times. He was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released the same day, according to the DCSO.

Roman spent 35 days at an Atlanta hospital where he was airlifted the day of the incident with lift-threaten injuries.

He was and taken into custody at the county jail on Nov. 30. He made his first court bond appearance the next day.

With his left arm bandaged to just above his elbow and his right hand bandaged, Roman was wheeled into the McClain’s courtroom Dec. 1 by a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy for his first appearance bond hearing.

McClain read him his rights and gave him some other information before denying bond.
