Roswell splits doubleheader with Artesia | Local Sports

Roswell’s offense was potent in the second half. Sophomore Roswell forward Adamaris Vasquez scored nine points in the third, and the trio of sophomore guard Aubrie Bolanos, senior Sarai Morales and junior Emma Esquivel combined for 19 points in the fourth. Overall, the Lady Coyotes outscored the Lady Bulldogs in the second half 35-30, but could not stop the Artesia’s inside game late in the fourth.

The Lady Coyotes had a balanced offensive night. Morales led the Lady Coyotes in scoring with 12 points, followed by Vasquez and Esquivel with 10 points each. Junior guard Bryana Castro put up nine points and Bolanos contributed eight. Artesia’s Beltran led the game with 15 points, followed by senior center Lorin Wagner with 14. Sophomore Jenna Whitmire scored 11 points and junior Hattie Harrison contributed 10 points.

For the boys’ game, the Coyotes boys varsity were coming in at 10-9 after a loss against Rio Rancho at home last Friday, while the Artesia squad was coming off a successful tournament where they won four of their five games. 

The boys’ game was the reverse of the girls’ varsity game. The Coyotes were down by a point in the first quarter but…
