WOODSTOCK, GA — A Powder Springs man has been arrested in connection with a crash that killed two teenagers at Towne Lake Parkway near Towne Lake Hills East, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
Authorities previously said Gabriel Escandon, 17, of Marietta, and Esteban Cortez-Rendon, 18, of Woodstock, died in the Jan. 9 night crash that injured three other teenagers.
The sheriff’s office previously told Patch the crash happened on Cortez-Rendon’s 18th birthday.

Nearly a month later, authorities identified Oliver Luis Roman, 18, as the driver of the second vehicle and arrested him in connection with the fatal crash.
Per the sheriff’s office, Roman was charged on suspicion of the following:

- Two counts of vehicular homicide
- Two counts of serious injury by vehicle
- Reckless driving
- Violation of a Class D license
Roman was booked Wednesday into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center, where he remains in custody without bond, authorities said.
The crash happened around 8:15 p.m., when a Mazda 6 left the roadway and hit a tree in the center median, killing Escandon at the scene, authorities said in the past.
The other four occupants were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where Cortez-Rendon died, authorities said.
Authorities say speed was a contributing factor in the crash. The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office’s Traffic Enforcement Unit investigated the case.
