What’s the most innovative idea that you’ve tried in your classroom?Â
I identify pre-requisite skills students require, so I can create individualized lessons that address gaps in their understanding. Â This approach has resulted in students bridging academic gaps even before embarking on new lessons, setting the stage for their successful progression. Â Additionally, I encourage students to engage their minds through active discussions and movement within the classroom, fostering an environment of dynamic learning.Â
Who is the best teacher you ever had and what made him or her special?
It was my sixth-grade teacher in Mexico, her name was Rosalia and she brought history to life! Â She would narrate class like she was a radio host welcoming us to a history program. Â She narrated history like a story. Â She also had very high standards for her students.Â
What can parents do to prepare their children for learning?
Parents can help students prepare by teaching study skills at home. Â If children create habits of organization and time management, it will help them be successful at school and in their future work lives.Â
What are the obstacles to getting all kids to achieve?
Students need to be engaged and be willing to risk learning. Â I try to build a classroom environment in which students are willing to take risks to learn something new. Â An environment of respect, high standards and sense of community is what has helped me achieve this.Â
