Handley ready to get ‘hands-on’ as Coweta’s newest FACS agent | Arts & Community

FACS agents have a long tradition of helping individuals and families over their lifespan and strengthening communities through educational programs.

Handley comes from Carroll County where she previously served as a Nutrition Education Program assistant working with Snap-Ed.

She’s lived in Carroll for several decades but has longstanding ties with Coweta County where her husband, Tod, has spent 20 years with Public Works in Coweta County.

“In Carroll County, I got to see what this job is about and I liked what I was doing but wanted to do more,” she said. “The role of FACS agent is something I have an affinity with. I love people, talking and cooking.”

One could say Handley has been preparing for the role of FACS agent for decades.

From her role as a stay-at-home mother to operating a small business like a tea room and Jam, Jelly, and Salsa business, she understands the role of food, food safety, and nutrition.

She’s also passionate about children and spent several years serving in early childhood education as a preschool teacher where she promoted healthy eating.

Add these experiences and passions together, and you have the recipe for the ideal FACS agent who is excited and ready to help serve her community.

Since coming aboard in Coweta in February, Handley is in the process of undergoing various training processes for a variety of programs she hopes to bring to Coweta County.
