Thomas Crossroads wins big at Welch Academic Bowl | News

Northside Elementary School came in second place, followed by Willis Road Elementary School in third and Newnan Crossing in fourth.

West Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency (West Georgia RESA) organizes the competitions and represents the elementary academic bowl divisions. The competitions are held at different local schools throughout the school year

“We hold three meets a year for three different divisions and then we have Finals for the top four teams in each division,” said Stacey Bankston, representative for West Georgia RESA. “Welch volunteered to host the third meet for division two.”

During the event, Welch provided food for all the students and teachers who participated. More than 78 students, parents and teachers were involved. It was organized by Welch Academic Bowl sponsors Sarah Leach and Staci Kelly. Other administrators and teachers were involved as readers, timers, runners, spotters and scorekeepers.

“RESA has three divisions for the Elementary Academic Bowl with 10 teams in each division,” said Bankston. “Each team in their division played another team one time. We took the top four highest scoring teams overall in those three meets combined and those top four make it to finals.”
