Benjamin E. Mays students respond to shooting – WABE

by Fulton Watch News Feed

Atlanta police say three people are detained for questioning after four students were shot and wounded at Benjamin E Mays High School on the Westside.

Police say shortly after dismissal Wednesday, shots were fired from a vehicle in the school’s parking lot.

They confirmed that the victims were teenage boys. They are being treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

WABE education reporter Juma Sei spoke to students at the school after he was invited for a visit by school officials one day after the shooting took place.

He said the shooting drew attention from Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and even the White House, as President Joe Biden mentioned it in a statement along with other incidents nationwide.

Sei said students at the school want to make it clear that this incident is not representative of the school’s character.

Christopher Alston contributed to this report.
