Child Seen Riding In Car Trunk Holding Bassinet; Duluth Woman Charged

by Fulton Watch News Feed

DULUTH, GA — A woman was arrested Tuesday after a social media video showed a 12-year-old boy riding in her car’s trunk while holding what Gwinnett County Police said was a baby bassinet.

Police were tipped off to the video, though they say it was unclear in which part of Gwinnett the grey Dodge 2-door car was located Sunday. The video showed a large object in the trunk with the boy, police said Wednesday.

“An out-of-state license plate was displayed on the back of the vehicle,” police said in a news release.

A Special Victims Unit detective on Monday used Flock cameras, which showed the Dodge in the area of Pleasant Hill and Shackleford roads Sunday. Police said the boy were seen in the images riding in the trunk.

The detective was able to identify the car’s owner and went to her home Tuesday, police said. It was determined the object in the trunk was a baby bassinet that was bought through an online marketplace ad, police said.

The woman was identified by police as 36-year-old Diana Denise Shaffer. She was arrested Tuesday and was charged on suspicion of reckless conduct and a seat belt violation. She bonded out of jail Wednesday morning, police said.
