Dealership says employee pocketed transactions | Public Safety

ROSWELL, Ga. — Roswell Police are investigating a string of thefts since October at Rick Case Hyundai on Ga. 9 after an employee allegedly kept funds for himself.

Employees at the dealership said they have discovered multiple thefts, totaling around $12,000.

Officers spoke with a service manager at the dealership April 1 who said staff confronted the employee March 28 about a $700 transaction using a credit card reader attached to his cellphone.

The employees said security cameras captured the transaction and the suspect returned the money when confronted.

The suspect, a Lilburn man, used his home address as the business location for his credit card reader, an officer said.

An officer said the employees provided examples of cash paid to the suspect for repairs, which have not been cleared from the service department.

The service manager said Rick Case Hyundai has not received the funds.

The officer said he visited the dealership to see if the suspect would arrive.

The human resources director then contacted the corporate office to work out the issues with the suspect.

After being unable to contact him, the HR director said the business wants to press charges.

The officer said the service manager and general manager completed witness statements, which only confirmed the attempted theft during the March 28 transaction.

While a warrant for theft by deception was obtained, the officer said the incident needs further investigation.
