Broadway’s Cicily Daniels in Carrollton March 23 | Times Georgian

After graduating from Yale University with a BA in Theatre Studies with a concentration in Performance, Daniels moved to New York City with the goal of performing on Broadway. To date, she has performed under eight production contracts on Broadway and National Tours including “Rent,” “All Shook Up,” “Caroline or Change,” “Porgy and Bess” and “A Night with Janis Joplin.”

On Broadway, Daniels was the first African American to perform the role of Ursula in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” She was last seen on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning revival of “Once on This Island,” in which she was featured as a Storyteller and ultimately performed three different principal roles: Asaka, Erzulie and Mama Euralie.

Recently, Daniels performed in the world premiere production of “American Prophet” at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., where she originated the roles of Betsey Bailey and Elizabeth Keckley. She has performed at many other prestigious regional theaters, including The MUNY, Syracuse Stage, The Pioneer Theatre, The Goodspeed Opera House, The Ahmanson Theatre, The Round House Theatre and The Signature Theatre. Daniels lists as her favorite regional shows “Newsies,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Chess” and “Ain’t Misbehavin’.”
