Coweta Rural Conservation parcel rezoned for industrial park | News

Approximately 180 acres of land were zoned New Community, and approximately 75 acres were zoned Rural Conservation, according to meeting minutes from February.

A hearing on the rezoning was originally held on Feb. 13 but was extended to the April 9 meeting to accommodate changes to the site plan because of some interference with the future Amlajack Interchange.

The industrial park will feature five warehouses totaling more than 2.1 million square feet.

Warren Tillery, attorney for Amlajack Industrial, and Josh Harrison, a representative for the nearby Coweta Industrial Park, both spoke in favor of the rezoning during the public comment period.

However, Walt Sanders Road residents are not as pleased about the addition of another industrial park so close to their homes.

At the Tuesday night meeting, one of the road’s residents, William Harbuck, voiced his opposition to the rezoning at the meeting. He said he already sees a warehouse from his front porch and hears trucks from his home throughout the weekend.

When previous construction occurred, the road was damaged and crews left behind litter, according to Harbuck.

“My tranquility and peace have been disturbed,” he said. “Walt Sanders has been a dead-end road since I’ve been there and I’d like to keep it inaccessible to these construction crews. They damaged the road and they littered the road. Every day I had to stand outside my driveway and pickup trash from these construction crews when they drove by.”
