The Douglasville Police Department is inviting members of the community, law enforcement and representatives from local governments to unite this Saturday for a common goal: making the city a better place in which to live, work, play, and shop.
“Isn’t that what everyone says they want?” Chief Gary Sparks pondered recently. He was quick to add, however, that what people say they want and what people do to make a difference are sometimes two different things. Case in point: the PD offers several programs, meetings, and classes to inform and help members of the community, he said, but participation is sparse, unless something — a shooting involving youths, for example — happens.
