Earthly Outfitters, a locally-owned, outdoor gear store in Carrollton, will celebrate its two-year anniversary this August. Owners Alan and Brandi Sanders opened the store to provide the community with a local alternative to big chain stores for camping, hiking, paddling, and other outdoor gear. Just this week Earthly Outfitters has opened their newly relocated shop at 929 Maple Street in Westover Square between Whiten Pools and American Pie Pizzeria.
Since the beginning, Earthly Outfitters has partnered with several local artisans to offer unique products like handcrafted pottery and forged items. Big Bear Forge, a veteran-owned business, and Tasha, a soapmaker, are two local business owners just to name a couple who support the Sanders and allow them to sell their products. “I think it’s important to say that as far as small businesses, it doesn’t hurt us to help any other small business, it only helps us,” Alan said.
The store also carries clothing, tents, sleeping bags, and other gear from brands like Jetboil and Stanley. “It’s been interesting. We have met a lot of awesome, really great [fellow] business owners. And I feel like the partnerships that we have with the business owners that we have so far are beneficial to everyone,” Alan said.
Customers appreciate Earthly Outfitters’ expertise and customer service. One example of customer satisfaction is an incident with one customer, who was so tall that he had to duck as he came through the doorway into the shop. Having searched to no avail at outdoor stores across four states, he finally found the long-sought backpack at Earthly Outfitters, one that fitted him properly–a 55-liter pack that adjusted in the shoulders eight inches in either direction.
