John Callaway named to Georgia Cattlemen’s Hall of Fame | Arts & Community

“Few individuals have contributed more to the state’s beef industry than John Callaway,” said David Gazda, American Angus Association regional director and past president of GCA, who nominated Callaway for the honor. “John has not only made a positive influence on the industry but in the lives of multiple generations of young people through the state’s junior livestock program. He has dedicated a lifetime to the betterment of the beef industry in our state, and his contributions to youth, agriculture and his community are numerous and meaningful.”

A Georgia icon in the cattle industry, Callaway addressed his peers at the Cattlemen’s Ball where the induction was made.

“This is quite an honor for me,” he said. “I’ve looked at that large Hall of Fame plaque in the boardroom in Macon many times and thought about all the wells those guys dug that we still drink from today. Never in a hundred years would I have thought that my name would one day be there along with theirs.”

Along with friends and fellow producers throughout the state, cheering on Callaway were 30 friends, family members and Coweta leaders, including State Sen. Matt Brass.

“Growing up, I learned to watch successful people to see how they acted – John Callaway was one of those people,” Brass told the GCA group. “I watched how John treated others, how he remembered your name and would ask about your wife and family, and how he was such a blessing to every life he touched.
