“I was sorry to see Paul (Poole) retire,” Fisher said. He’s done a remarkable job over the past twenty years.”

He said one of the county’s strengths is the leadership that Poole, Commission Chairman John Reidelbach and Commissioner Bill McKenzie have shown.

“The county has a proven track record of success,” Fisher said. “It’s just the ability to maintain it.”

Still, he sees room for improvement, particularly in the county’s relationships with other Coweta County governments.

“I think the greatest challenge for the county is just having the ability to sit down at the table and work with other legislative bodies,” Fisher said, citing the county’s tussles with Senoia, Sharpsburg, Grantville and Newnan.

“The day you stop sitting down and discussing things at the table is when the public loses,” Fisher said.

Fisher will bring years of leadership experience working in city government as a city councilman and mayor in Senoia, as well as experience working in the federal government, first in the military and then in the FBI.

Fisher said he has a track record of working with people and getting projects completed.

With his day job as assistant city manager in Senoia, he said he sees the possibility of some conflict of interest. Still, he said he’ll follow the lead of the county attorney in recusing himself when necessary.

But he did consult with an attorney before qualifying and was told it was a unique situation but completely legal.

“Here, I’m not a sworn-in officer,” Fisher said. “Council doesn’t dictate what I do. I work at will for the city manager.”
