A shift in legislative decision making may be on the way for the “City of Gold,” thanks to a city charter proposal that is currently in committee in the Georgia Legislature.
Former Villa Rica mayor and current State Rep. J. Collins has introduced local legislation that would amend the city’s charter to allow the mayor to appoint and remove the city manager. In light of checks and balances, the city council could also override the mayor’s decision, but it would require a supermajority vote of four — not the simple majority.
