Wolves drop midweek baseball contest to Hurricanes | Times Georgian

Piepmeier found himself in trouble early as the righty walked the first batter of the game, setting the stage for a two-run inning for the Hurricanes.

West Georgia got a run back in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of a solo home run from Luke Hatcher before newly inserted Brady Simpson retired Georgia Southwestern in the top of second to send it to the bottom half.

UWG couldn’t push a run across in the bottom of the second, giving GSW an opportunity to add to their lead in the top of the third. The Hurricanes did just that as Georgia Southwestern added a run after an-RBI-single from Noah Roberts, putting the Wolves in a 3-1 hole.

UWG got a run back in their half of the third courtesy of an RBI-single from Cooper Prince, making it a 3-2 game.

After both pitching staffs stifled the opposing offenses in the next two innings, West Georgia loaded up the bases with no outs in the fifth but couldn’t score any runs, keeping their deficit at 3-2 as we went to the sixth.

In the top of the sixth, Smith called on Mike Schicker out of the bullpen. Schicker struggled to get through the inning as the righty walked the leadoff man before walking another batter, putting runners on second and third with GSW’s leader in home runs, Calvin Alexander, due up.

Moments later, Alexander belted a three-run homer to left field to extend the Hurricanes’ lead to 6-2.

Throughout the remainder of the game, the Wolves couldn’t push another run…
