A woman from Georgia is seeking a refund after she was charged over $7,100 for an Italian sub from Subway.
Vera Conner told WSB-TV that she discovered the large charge on her credit card statement after ordering her regular #4 from a Subway in College Park, Georgia.
“I could have gone to Italy and got the sandwich,” she said.
As of Monday afternoon, the woman’s bank is in the process of removing the charge after it was disputed.
She said the sandwich typically costs $7.54, but she was charged $7,112.98.
“I was like, oh, my God, how did this happen?” Conner said.
Conner later discovered that she was charged for a $7,105 tip — numbers she said align with her phone number.
Conner told the station she suspected the screen changed when she was trying to connect her purchase to Subway reward points, which were tied to her phone number.
“I’m not that big of a tipper,” she said.
Connor told WSB-TV that the store manager would not discuss the tip with her and that her credit card company had sent her a denial letter when she disputed the charge.
WSB-TV said the individual location and Subway corporate and did not answer their questions about the charge.
A representative from Bank of America told the station that they have also contacted Subway.
