COLLEGE PARK, Md. — After another dominant road result, Penn State held onto its spots in a pair of national polls. And the updated rankings keep a top-10 billing for next weekend’s marquee matchup with national implications.

Penn State was ranked No. 9 in both the Associated Press Top 25 College Football Poll and the USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, which was released Sunday afternoon. The Nittany Lions held their No. 9 ranking in both polls after defeating Maryland, 51-15, on Saturday and with all eight teams ranked ahead of them winning their games.

The next edition of the College Football Playoff rankings will be released Tuesday. The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 11 in the inaugural edition of those rankings last week.

The AP Top 25 poll is led by No. 1 Georgia (49 first-place votes), No. 2 Michigan (nine), No. 3 Ohio State (three), No. 4 Florida State (two) and No. 5 Washington. Then, it’s No. 6 Oregon, No. 7 Texas and No. 8 Alabama ahead of Penn State with No. 10 Ole Miss behind the Nittany Lions to round out the top 10.

The No. 2 Wolverines, No. 3 Buckeyes and the No. 9 Nittany Lions are the only Big Ten teams ranked with Iowa receiving votes as the unofficial No. 32 team in the country.

Penn State’s high vote in the AP Top 25 Poll was No. 5 on one ballot and the low vote was No. 10 on 17 ballots. Two voters also had the Nittany Lions at No. 6 and three had them at No. 7.
