A fast-casual dining franchise that’s expanding its footprint soon will open its first of nine planned Palmetto State locations in the Lowcountry.
Slim Chickens plans to welcome customers Dec. 4 at 451 N. U.S. Highway 52 near Walmart in Moncks Corner. The restaurant originally planned to open Nov. 13, but construction delays pushed back the launch.
Franchisees with Chandler Restaurant Group, including multi-unit Firehouse Subs owner Larry Chandler and business partner Tana Lee, are opening the newly constructed 3,570-square-foot restaurant.
Among the menu offerings are fried chicken, chicken and waffles, 17 different sauces, side dishes and desserts.
Chandler said the first of two planned restaurants in Florence will open on Pamplico Highway by late January. The other, with the location to be determined, is slated for the Pee Dee city late next year along with one planned for Murrells Inlet south of Myrtle Beach.
Also in the Grand Strand area, two other restaurants are set to open by mid-2024 in Conway and the nearby Carolina Forest development.
At least three others are planned for undisclosed sites in the Charleston region.
Chandler, who has been in the restaurant business for nearly 40 years, owns 38 Firehouse Subs venues in the Carolinas, the largest number of locations in the system. Lee has worked with Chandler since 2021 as a general manager at the sandwich chain.
Lights out
A Lowcountry Mexican restaurant recently closed, but a replacement venue is in the works.
Los Gorditos at 1000 Tanner Ford Blvd. in Hanahan turned out the lights in late October and the food truck is for sale, but the operators announced on social media “something new and exciting will be here replacing us” without elaborating.
