It’s transfer portal time.
Sure, the University of Louisville football team plays in the ACC Championship game on Saturday night in Charlotte, N.C., against Florida State. But while preparing the team for the title game, the U of L staff is also already busy working the transfer portal.
The portal opens for all of college football on Dec. 4 but graduate transfers, players from the Ivy League, and non-Division I players can enter the portal beforehand.
Louisville’s staff is expected to replenish the roster with a bunch of portal transfers during the upcoming offseason.
The Cardinals have already offered several portal targets and Cardinal Authority can confirm the first official visit.
Shorter University offensive lineman Alan Herron, who entered the portal last week and picked up an offer from the Cardinals, confirmed that he will be making an official visit to Louisville this month. Herron will make a visit Dec. 15-17 to the Cardinals.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Herron has already landed more than 20 scholarship offers, including from U of L, Maryland, Kansas, Virginia Tech, Marshall, Texas Tech, Houston, Toledo, USF, East Carolina, Charlotte, Western Kentucky, and a few others.
Herron said he has several other visits in the works but the Division II standout confirmed the date for the Louisville trip.
247Sports transfer portal experts Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz said Herron’s “upside is something that a lot of schools are intrigued by.”
Herron is originally from Jamaica and played his high school ball at Benjamin Banneker High School in College Park, Ga.
Louisville is losing several key offensive linemen, including starting center Bryan Hudson and tackles Eric Miller and Willie Tyler. The expectation is the Cardinals could take three or more offensive linemen from the portal.
