World Series champion Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy lives in Nashville

You may not know it but Nashville has a connection with the World Series champion Texas Rangers.

It turns out manager Bruce Bochy and his wife Kim moved to College Grove a couple of years ago.

Bochy, 68, who had already won three World Series titles as manager of the San Francisco Giants (2010, 2012 and 2014) was enjoying spending time with his grandchildren fishing and watching reruns of old TV Westerns when the Rangers showed up in Nashville and lured him out of retirement after the 2022 season.

Bochy had also led the San Diego Padres to the World Series in 1998 where they lost to the New York Yankees.

Bochy hadn’t managed since leaving San Francisco in 2019 when Rangers general manager Chris Young, who had pitched for Bochy at San Diego, asked if he would consider coming out of retirement? Bochy was intrigued because he felt Texas had the chance to win big.

“It’s special to come here in my first year with a team that was determined to play winning baseball and had never won a championship,” Bochy told CBS Texas. “But as far as me, that’s a byproduct of what those (players) did out there and what the front office did. I was along for the ride, trust me. I was very fortunate and blessed to be able to get back into baseball in this type of a situation.”

Bochy became only the sixth manager to win at least four World Series titles joining Joe McCarthy (seven), Casey Stengel (seven), Connie Mack (five), Walter Alston (four) and Joe Torre (four). Tony La Russa, Miller Huggins and John McGraw each won three.

Bochy, who signed a three-year contract with the Rangers, returned to his home in College Grove after the World Series for the offseason.
