Investigative journalism series explores how corporate buyers outbought Atlanta homebuyers – WABE

Brian Eason, a local government reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, says the Atlanta housing market was hit hard during the 2000s housing market crisis and the market continues to face challenges.

On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Eason spoke about a special investigative series that explores how corporate homebuyers competed against regular homebuyers to make more than 65,000 home purchases across 11 Georgia counties.

“There was a period where these large investors were buying one out of every three homes for sale, for close to a year,” said Eason.

Eason further explained that some realtors sometimes put in cash offers for several houses listed under  500,000.
