Matthieu Bloch, professor in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), is joining the College of Engineering leadership team as associate dean for academic affairs. He begins his new role Feb. 1.
Bloch will serve as the College’s primary representative on all matters affecting undergraduate and graduate academics. He will lead program development, manage a range of assessment programs, and work with school chairs on academic programming.
The appointment continues Bloch’s service in academic leadership roles. He has been ECE’s associate chair for graduate affairs since January 2021.
“Matthieu has played a pivotal role in ECE, directing the largest graduate program on our campus and one of the nation’s largest,” said Raheem Beyah, dean of the College and Southern Company Chair. “His passion for supporting students, faculty, and staff reflects a commitment that strengthens our campus community. I’m excited to collaborate with him as he broadens his influence and innovative ideas across our College’s eight schools.”
Bloch joined the ECE faculty in 2009, a year after earning his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech. He was initially based at Georgia Tech-Europe in Metz, France, before moving to the Atlanta campus in 2013.
Bloch’s research focuses on classical and quantum information theory, error-control coding, wireless communications, and cryptography.
