Here are the top stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:

1. Diversity, equity, and inclusion, words that for many have brought a sense of purpose to the educational system, are now facing removal from the 2023 educator program prep standards. The NAACP DeKalb County branch has stepped in announcing opposition to this proposal from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. NAACP DeKalb President Lance Hammonds stated that this would be a step back. The Georgia Professional Standards Commission is the certifying board for teachers, admin, and counselors in Georgia. 2. School is out but the DeKalb County School District is looking ahead towards the 2023-2024 school year. The district is hosting a job fair on Thursday, June 1 at Columbia Middle School, 3001 Columbia Drive in Decatur. The hiring event starts at 9 a.m. and will conclude at noon. 3. Summer fun is soon to begin at some of our local organizations. Decatur Legacy Park, Cochran Building located at 500 S Columbia Drive in Decatur will have both indoor and outdoor activities. These programs will take place from June 12 to July 7. Avondale Estates LSC Gymnastics and Tumbling will also have camps this summer at 127 Center St. in Avondale Estates.
