Photos: Piedmont Park’s boardwalk is backā€”and glorious as ever

by Fulton Watch News Feed

Those dicey plywood patches are officially a thing of the past at the boardwalk section of Atlantaā€™s marquee park.

As visitors to Piedmont Parkā€™s woodsy northeast section may have noticed, the parkā€™s winding, elevated boardwalk has been rebuilt through an area known as the Six Springs Wetlands, allowing for quick access to nature, with views of native plants and trees and a babbling creek near Atlanta Botanical Garden.Ā

According to the Piedmont Park Conservancy, the remade boardwalk reopened last monthā€”now with sleeker, horizontal railingsā€”following a closure last spring and extensive repairs. (Fun fact: The boardwalk and adjacent, gravel Six Springs Trail were originally opened back in 2009, after the conservancy had discovered six underground springs while expanding the areaā€™s dog park.)

Repairs to the boardwalk and gravel trail were funded via the $750 million ā€œMoving Atlanta Forwardā€ infrastructure bond package passed by Atlanta voters in 2022, according to the conservancy, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.
