Steve Miller Band plays The Fox Theatre | Gateway-Beacon

Following his graduation from the University of Wisconsin, Miller spent a year in Europe and then returned to the United States to pursue music professionally. He then moved to Chicago and spent three years playing regular shows alongside blues greats such as Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, and Jimmy Reed. In an interview with disc jockey Redbeard on www.inthestudio.net, posted in August of this year, he shared what those early pursuits were like.

“We worked from nine o’clock at night until four o’clock in the morning six nights a week,” Miller reports. “But I got tired of playing in Chicago at all the clubs and all the drinking…these were hard-nosed nightclubs…I decided it was time for ‘Stevie Guitar’ to head west.”

Miller moved his career to San Francisco where he secured a recording contract and began working with engineer and producer Glyn Johns. With Johns, he and his band recorded four records that continue to be heralded for their unique psychedelic sound.
