Atlanta takes 6th place among top 25 cities for coworking spaceĀ

Atlanta ranked No. 6 among the 25 largest U.S. cities for coworking space in the second quarter after healthy increases in both the number of coworking facilities in the city and total coworking square footage, CoworkingCafe reported in a new analysis.Ā 

Unsurprisingly, Manhattan, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., took the top three spots for both number of spaces and square footage.

In Atlanta, the number of coworking spaces rose 12% quarter over quarter, from 187 to 210, while the city’s total square feet of coworking space rose 8%, from 4.09 million square feet to 4.42 million square feet. At the same time, the average square footage of Atlanta’s coworking locations declined 4% from 21,890 square feet to 21,044 square feet, reflecting a nationwide preference for smaller spaces.Ā 

Nationally, the stock of coworking spaces increased 10% from the first quarter to the second, rising to 6,163 locations, CoworkingCafe said, citing data from Yardi Matrix. By square footage, total coworking space rose to 120.6 million square feet from 113.7 million square feet, while the average square feet per location slid 3% to 19,571 square feet from 20,268. Ā 

The cost of coworking subscriptions in the Atlanta market generally rose quarter over quarter, with the median price for a virtual officeĀ increasing to $163 per month from $74 and dedicated desk prices rising to $299 per month from $254. Open workspaces, meanwhile, were flat at $139 per month.Ā 

Nationally, the median rates for virtual offices, open workspaces and dedicated desks stood at $143, $149 and $329, respectively, at the end of the second quarter.Ā
