ATLANTA (TND) — A woman who was allegedly being held hostage by her child’s father in Atlanta was able to mouth “help me” when police arrived, according to authorities.
The Atlanta Police Department said they responded around 10 p.m. on Jan. 26 to a domestic dispute call on Piedmont Avenue in Northeast Atlanta.
While responding to the scene, police stated they were informed a woman and her child were being held against their will.
The suspect, 34-year-old Andre Ross, was believed to be the child’s father and police determined he had multiple felony warrants for armed robbery, weapons charges and obstruction and probation violations.
When officers were able to speak with the woman, police said she “appeared to be uncooperative, based on her statements, but mouthed “help me” to officers.”
The woman would not allow officers inside the home and would not leave but officers said they were able to set up a perimeter around the home and request SWAT and Hostage Negotiators to the scene.
Eventually, hostage negotiators were able to speak with Ross and talk him into surrendering without further incident.
The woman and child were removed from the apartment and are safe, police added.
Ross was charged with false imprisonment and taken to the Fulton County Jail.
