Clayton County School System Announces Random Searches To Improve Safety | News

“Recent events throughout metro Atlanta have caused our district leadership to refocus on the need for our students to be responsible for their behavior,” Clayton County School Superintendent Anthony Smith said. “It is always important that we remind our families and our communities that they play an essential role in supporting our efforts to keep our campus free zones — weapons-free, violence-free, drug-free and gang-free. These five behavior norms are non-negotiable for our school system.”

As part of the initiative, the CCPS Division of Safety and Security has partnered with various Clayton County and other law enforcement agencies to be proactive and ensure safety for students, staff, and visitors.

“Working together, we can ensure that our students have the opportunity for the successful future they deserve and — in all honesty — should expect from Clayton County Public Schools,” Smith said.

The school system noted that the random searches could include K-9s at middle and high schools.

“This comprehensive effort to support and enhance the work that has been accomplished to secure a culture of safety in our schools is designed to guide the district as it moves through the second semester toward spring break and the end of the school year,” the school system’s Feb. 21 announcement read.
