Clayton County steadily improving on Georgia Milestones | News

The Georgia Milestones testing has four achievement levels — Beginning Learners, Developing Learners, Proficient Learners, and Distinguished Learners.

Milestones data gives school systems critical information about how students are performing on the content standards set by the Georgia Department of Education.

A general glance at the proficiency rates (proficiency rates includes students who are deemed Proficient and Distinguished):

Language arts, grades 3 to 8: 22% proficient, up from 19% last year.

Math, grades 3 to 8: 17% proficient, up from 14% last year.

Science, grades 5 to 8: 15% proficient, up from 14% last year.

Social studies, grade 8: 18% proficient, up from 17 % last year.

Clayton County outperformed the state in pass rate improvement in the following areas — all grade levels in English/language arts, all grade levels in math, grade 5 in science, and grade 8 in social studies.

American literature: 22% proficient, down from 25% last year.

Algebra I: 15% proficient, up from 14% last year.

Biology: 23% proficient, up from 22% last year

U.S. history: 24% proficient, up from 19% last year.

Clayton County outperformed the state in pass rate improvement in Algebra I, biology, and U.S. history.

American literature reading: 50%
