DCHS places at May Day competition | Douglasville Sentinel

The morning competition that the DCHS Team competed in was the Exploratory Round, which consisted of multiple choice questions and exposed students to a variety of math concepts.

During the midday, teams attended a session presented by Georgia Tech professors, and then they broke for lunch to prepare for the afternoon session.

For the afternoon competition, the students participated in the Team Round where they were grouped into teams and solved multi-part problems from various areas of math with “low floor and high ceiling”. The problems were designed to lead the students through a complex solution that explored an interesting concept similar in structure to the ARML Power Round. Each of the problems covered topics not typical for a high school curriculum, such as Graph Theory or Topology. Students worked towards solving one of these problems by solving smaller questions designed to guide them through the problem and develop intuition for the subject.
