Chapel Hill led the county with a 95.1% rate, its highest in the last five years.

“That is the hump that we had being trying to get over,” Chapel Hill Principal Nicole Watson said.

The Chapel Hill Class of 2022 had a 94.03% while the 2021 class was at 94.29% and the class of 2020 had a 94.94% rate.

Alexander was the only other school to be over the 90% mark, with a 90.4% graduation rate for 2023.

Douglas County was at 87.6% while New Manchester was at 86% and Lithia Springs had an 84.6% rate.

According to state Department of Education, the county is ranked No. 8th in the metro Atlanta area.

Forsyth County Schools had the highest percentage in the metro area with a 96% rate.

Also ranked higher than Douglas County were Decatur City Schools (94%), Buford City (93%), Cherokee County (92%), Fayette County (92%), Fulton County (90%), and Paulding County (90%).

Cobb County had an average of 87.7%, which was right behind Douglas.

Carrollton, which wasn’t included in the metro area listing, had a 94.9% rate.

Watson called the class of 2023 special because they went through the recent COVID pandemic.

“This class went through a lot in high school,” Watson said. “This class is special because of what they had to overcome. They went through a lot but finished strong.”

The four-year graduation rate in Georgia rose to 84.4% — up from 84.1% in 2022, and an all-time high since the state began using the adjusted cohort calculation first required to be calculated in 2011 by federal law.
