Douglasville receives $75,000 ‘Perk Your Park’ grant; money to be used on Fowler Field Park | Archives

The NRPA and Niagara Bottling Perk Your Park Project empower communities to embrace healthy lifestyles by getting residents and visitors alike to enjoy vibrant and family-oriented outdoor spaces. The grant award establishes a year-long connection between the two organizations and local municipalities, working together on project planning and bringing volunteers to help complete renovations.

The money will go towards improving Fowler Field Park. Since the park sits on a floodplain, the funds given through this grant will allow the city to construct a rain garden at the park to help with stormwater runoff. It will also make improvements to the current trail at the park, including an expansion with crushed gravel resurfacing to help with the longevity of the trail during rainy seasons.

Communities had the opportunity to vote online for the parks and projects they thought should win. Douglasville was one of the parks with the highest number of votes.

“We express our gratitude to the community for their support in making this possible,” said Parks and Recreation Director Chris Bass. “Without their assistance, we wouldn’t have been able to secure this grant. These funds will serve the dual purpose of improving the park, including enhancements to stormwater control, as well as expanding walking paths throughout the park.”
