Man Found Guilty Of 2020 Jonesboro Murder | News

The Clayton DA’s Office said that at trial, evidence showed that on May 16, 2020, Humphreys posted a message on Instagram threatening the victim Jayla King over money owed to him.

Later that day, King picked up Humphreys and drove him to a Jonesboro apartment complex where Humphreys shot King four times in her torso and chest while inside of her vehicle.

King sustained fatal gunshot wounds that perforated her heart, the DA’s Office said.

The case was investigated by Clayton County Police and surveillance video showed Humphreys near the crime scene minutes after the shooting.


The case was prosecuted by Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Perez-Espejo and Assistant District Attorney Rekiyah Baker. Investigator Jennifer Langley and Victim Advocate Alona Johnson also played a crucial role in the prosecution of the case, the DA’s Office said.

The trial began on Oct. 30 with Clayton County Superior Court Judge Jewel Scott presiding over the case.
