Potentially Severe Storms Target Metro Atlanta

by Fulton Watch News Feed

ATLANTA, GA — Metro Atlanta counties could see day four of downpours Wednesday with the main threat being storms arriving overnight into Thursday, weather officials told Patch.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible early Wednesday afternoon, typical for summertime in the metro; but, meteorologist Vaughn Smith said the wave of storms rolling in around midnight may potentially be severe.

Smith is with the National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office. He said the rainfall is approaching from the northwest.

With severe storms, hazards can include possible hail, lightning, heavy rain and strong gusty winds of 30-60 mph. Smith said trees could fall and patio furniture could be tossed.

As for the Thursday morning commute, Smith warned drivers to slow down while traveling through any lingering rain.
