In his outgoing remarks, Cole thanked the town for giving him a chance to serve and attempt to move Sharpsburg forward. He urged the council and residents to keep dreaming big, citing their ability to “punch above our weight” when it comes to getting things done.

“I know I get an idea in my head and most of the time it works, but there are times it doesn’t but they’re getting fewer,” he said. “For everyone who came, you’re awesome and the reason we do this and if you ever want to get involved in politics, do it. Surprisingly, it’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. It’s a calling and I couldn’t have done it without you.”

Parten also thanked those in attendance for coming. Parten served three terms representing Post 1 as council member, first from 2008 to 2012, and then again between 2016 and 2024.

Incoming council member Cynthia Puckett-Pike will take over Post 1.

The Sharpsburg Downtown Development Authority will host Winterfest, featuring a “glice” skating rink, Dec. 22-23 at Staley Park Pavilion

Glice is a Swiss-engineered synthetic ice that looks and feels like the real thing.

April Yarbrough of the DDA said she hopes the event will continue to grow and that winter skating will become synonymous with the town of Sharpsburg.

“Even if it’s hot outside, we’ll still be in good shape,” Yarbrough said. “Eventually, we’d like the opportunity to host skating all month during December.”

Available slots are from 9 a.m. to 4:30, with each session lasting 30 minutes. The first two slots on each day are reserved for parents with young…
