On Point with Juandolyn Stokes welcomed Dr. Eric Tait, esteemed Board Member of the Thomas J. Blocker Society Foundation about the 2nd Annual Living Legends Gala honoring the contributions of those in the healthcare field.
This year’s two gala honorees are Dr. Benjamin A. Blackburn II, D.D.S., a leader in redefining oral health and Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, an OB-GYN and the first female leader of the Morehouse School of Medicine.
“What we are trying to do is highlight African Americans in healthcare and give them their flowers while they are still around,” said Tait.
This event is named after Dr. Thomas J. Blocker, who was an educator at Morehouse College for 30 years and is credited with making Morehouse the number one producer of African American doctors and dentists.
In addition to the gala, the Foundation also offers programs for potential medical students including a Summer Science program to introduce students to the rigors of medical school and the Why We Can’t Wait Breakfast, which offers a mentorships program.
le The gala will be held on Saturday, September 30 at the Intercontinental Buckhead Atlanta at 7:30 p.m. For more tickets, tables or sponsorship opportunities, please visit ThomasJBlockersociety.com.
