Traffic stops produce 4 arrests, multiple felony charges in Peachtree City

A midnight traffic stop in Peachtree City this week resulted in three people going to jail on felony drug charges.

According to reports, a traffic stop was initiated around 12:05 a.m. Oct. 8 in the area of Hwy. 74 and Willow Road due to a vehicle driving on top of the center lane marker and the odor of marijuana. Reasonable suspicion of marijuana possession and driver impairment led to a search which produced a felony amount of green leafy marijuana as well as tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as cannabis, on each occupant of the vehicle.

The suspects — Amber Copeland, 22, of Union City; Amitcheon Lewis, 20, of College Park; and Cheryl Wells, 45, of Atlanta — were all arrested on felony charges of drug possession/sale/manufacture as well as a lesser charge of marijuana possession. Wells was also charged with obstruction of an officer.

Elsewhere in Peachtree City, an Oct. 6 traffic stop in the middle of the night took place in the area of Hwy. 74 and Georgian Park. Reports indicated that further investigation from speaking to the driver led to numerous felony and misdemeanor charges.

Edward Thomas, 40, of Douglasville faces three counts of drug possession/sale/manufacture and one count each of theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm/knife in commission of a crime, according to the Fayette County Jail log. He was also charged with driving with a suspended registration, obstruction of an officer, and possession/use of drug-related objects.

Officers responded the afternoon of Oct. 9 to a residence on Tamerlane after a caller reported that her spouse was making threats to harm her. The husband, 85, of Peachtree City was arrested and charged with terroristic threats and acts. He was taken to Fayette County Jail.
