Villa Rica to discuss personnel, amendments | Times Georgian

According to City Attorney David Mecklin, as deputy city manager, McDougal will be considered a city department head. Prior to the vote, council members had the option to request a new recommendation for the position, but no other recommendation was made. During his six-month probationary period, the option to terminate McDougal can be revisited, according to a discussion between the council and City Manager Tom Barber.

Following that meeting, Mayor Leslie McPherson made a public statement on her personal Facebook page.

“The citizens of Villa Rica voted 2-1 to reject the failed policies and administration of the former mayor,” McPherson wrote. “In spite of that, the city manager and the former mayor’s allies have now attempted to sidestep that vote by bringing him back into city government. This is shameful, and Villa Rica voters are rightfully outraged.”

At Monday’s executive session will be held to review and deliberate the details of the employment, disciplinary action, and legal matters of a public officer as provided in Georgia code section 50-14-3(b)(2) and 50-14-2(1), according to city document.

In other business, the reappointment of the Villa Rica Development Authority, amendment to section 16-44 restricted uses and activities (hours for collection of trash), text amendment maximum parking and layout, special exception request and tank lines gravel variance will also be discussed.
