Atlanta’s art galleries and museum stores are stocked up for holiday shopping

by Fulton Watch News Feed

Atlanta’s galleries always have quality art for sale, but this time of year a few offer a broader selection at a variety of price points. Museum stores, too, have hundreds if not thousands of high-end art books, exhibit catalogs, prints and more available for holiday shopping. Revenue from sales at these venues help support the city’s art institutions.

The store at the High Museum of Art is open year-round with a rich inventory of books and other items tied to its many exhibits, including A Long Arc: Photography and the American South Since 1845. This year, Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck and the rest of author and illustrator Beatrix Potter’s creations are on sale in a variety of guises including figurines, along with books about Potter’s work as a farmer, landowner and preservationist. And, of course, those funky art socks that decorate your toes with the Mona Lisa, Van Gogh’s The Starry Night and more make great stocking stuffers. The store is open Tuesday through Sunday, 12 p.m. through 5 p.m., and doesn’t require an entrance fee. There’s an online shop, too.

The Carlos Museum Bookshop serves Emory University’s faculty and students as well as museum visitors, which is reflected in its wide ranging inventory.

This season, the Carlos Museum Bookshop is featuring new books relating to Latinx photography and history in the United States, tying in with the museum’s current exhibit You Belong Here: Places, People, and Purpose in Latinx Photography. The store has thousands of books on art, archaeology, history and mythology, as well as replica ancient jewelry and statuary, art notecards and other gifts for both adults and children. The bookshop is open Tuesdays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Shoppers can also browse the store’s nonprofit e-commerce site. All sales ordered through the museum “storefront” benefit the institution.
