GBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting In South Fulton | News

The GBI said preliminary information indicates that at around 7 p.m. on Nov. 28, SFPD officers responded to the 4400 block of Roosevelt Highway in South Fulton to a 911 call for a sexual assault complaint.

The victim reported that a man, later identified as Fred Claud Perkins, 78, of Riverdale, shot at her and hit her with his gun. When officers arrived on scene, they gathered information on the incident and Perkin’s possible location.

As officers approached a shed on the property, they found Perkins. The GBI said Perkins was armed with a shotgun and shot at officers. Officers returned fire and Perkins retreated into the shed. Later, officers found Perkins dead inside the building. Police found a shotgun with Perkins. 

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation and once complete, the case file will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review. 

This is the 94th officer involved shooting the GBI has been requested to investigate in 2023.
