GWINNETT COUNTY, GA– Aaron Vaughn, 30, of Lawrenceville, has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree in a collision that killed three people, including his 5-year-old daughter, in Peachtree Corners.
Vaughn also is facing three counts of Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree, two counts of Transporting a Child in a Vehicle without proper restraint, Driver Required to Wear a Seatbelt, two counts of Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree, Serious Injury by Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Speeding. Vaughn was arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on Friday, March 22, at 3:06 p.m.
Gwinnett County Police Department detectives determined that Vaughn was driving a yellow Chevrolet Camaro in excess of 100 mph when he collided with a dark blue BMW on Peachtree Corners Circle. The speed limit where the crash happened is 45 mph, police said. Vaughn was southbound in the right lane as the BMW was eastbound on Elmside Village Lane, attempting to make a left onto Peachtree Corners Circle northbound when the collision occurred, police stated.
The driver of the BMW, Armas Harding, 46, and a passenger, Laura Rueda, 46, both of Brookhaven, died at the scene.
Vaughn also sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Vaughn’s 5-year-old daughter, Aura Camarono, died at the hospital. His 6-year-old daughter and a 28-year-old passenger also were hospitalized, police said.
The two children were restrained in the back seat of the car by the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belt, but were not in child safety seats, police said. Georgia law requires that all children under the age of 8 be restrained in a child safety seat appropriate for their height and weight.
