First-ever Milton election creates some confusion at the polls

MILTON, Ga. — Only a few hours remain for Milton residents to cast their votes in the city’s first self-conducted municipal election, where the three Milton City Council Post 2 seats are on the ballot.

On Election Day, registered Milton voters can only cast ballots at their assigned polling location.

There are three Election Day polling places: Milton City Hall on Heritage Walk, the Community Center at Milton Park and Preserve on Dinsmore Road, and the Milton Municipal Court at the Public Safety Complex on Ga. 9.

At the Milton Municipal Court, the assistant poll manager directed all Election Day inquiries to Deputy City Manager Stacey Inglis.

Calls to Inglis and other city staff were not immediately returned. 

None of the six poll workers at the precinct or the two poll watchers were made available to comment on the ongoing municipal election.

Amy Donnelly, who voted at the Milton Municipal Court, said she enjoyed the streamlined voting process and found her assigned precinct through the city’s website.

One resident briefly spoke with Appen Media about his experience at the polls. He described the voting process as working smoothly, but communication from the city and Futon County as going very poorly.

“The paper ballot process takes 4 minutes, it’s a pleasure, everybody I see leaving has a smile on their face,” the resident said. “People knowing which polling place to go to has proved itself to be a big problem.”

The same resident estimated about 125 people had voted at the Milton Municipal Court by noon on Election Day.

He recounted that after one resident showed up at the wrong polling place, the would-be voter gave up.

“Most people are getting annoyed, whether or not they go to the proper place, I hope they do,” the man said.
