MILTON, Ga. — A Milton man reported to police Feb. 16 that he had been scammed out of more than $105,000 by multiple people promising to help him pay off debts.

The man told police he began receiving phone calls through WhatsApp, from a person who told him his company was in possession of vouchers that the man could buy at a discount and in turn, the company would pay off debts, according to the incident report. The man said he was told he would pay a percentage of the original debt, the report says.

The man told police he had also been contacted by another person offering the same services, eventually sending an $8,000 check to a bank as instructed.

The man lost more than $105,000 through exchanges with both suspects, and none of his debt had been paid, the report says.

After the man provided supporting documents of the scam, police informed him an investigator would be in contact and provided information to contact the FBI and the Federal Trade Commission.
