MILTON, Ga. — The City of Milton will hold a mock election Oct. 12, open to the public, to demonstrate how the upcoming general municipal election will proceed.
The mock election will occur in Milton City Hall’s Council Chambers, starting sometime after 2 p.m. following the “Logic and Accuracy” testing of poll pads which is not expected to take more than 45 minutes.
City employee volunteers will pose as voters, while real Milton poll workers will run through the same duties they will exercise during in-person advanced voting and on Election Day.
The exercise will include the casting and manual tabulation of paper ballots. During the mock election, votes will be cast for imaginary candidates — not any of the individuals on the actual 2023 ballot.
Citizens are welcome to observe the process, but they will not participate in the mock election. They are, however, free to ask questions afterward. The idea is to provide residents with a firm understanding of how Milton’s first self-conducted general municipal election will operate.
Prospective voters must register at their Milton address by Oct. 10 to be eligible to participate in the election.
In-person advanced voting starts Oct. 16 and runs through Nov. 3, excluding Sundays, at City Hall. On Election Day, Nov. 7, voters can cast ballots between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. only at their assigned polling place.
